Windows XP Printer Driver - Paper Size
--------------------------------------

The printer driver has one 3" or 4" built-in paper size which is
determined by which driver is selected during installation.

However, a smaller paper size can be used if a new "form" is
defined. In Windows XP this is done by clicking on "Start"
-> "Printers" -> "File" -> "Server Properties" to display the
"Print Server Properties" property sheet "Forms" tab. Check
the "Create a New Form" box and enter the desired width of the
paper. (See the paragraph below.) It is suggested that the
(maximum) height of the form be set to 12". All four margins
should be set to 0. (The actual margins will be set in the
printing application.) Be sure to give the new form a name
different from one that already exists on the computer, and
be sure to press the "Save Form" button before exiting.

Microsoft printer drivers are based on the English system of
measurement. To permit exact entry of the printable area and
margins (important in a narrow-format printer), the printhead dot
spacing is assumed to be precisely 0.005", rather than the actual
value of 0.125 mm. All other dimensions required by the driver
and printing applications must be scaled by the same 25.4/25
factor. Therefore, the default paper roll width of 3 1/8" is
entered as 3.19", and the minimum left margin is entered into a
printing application as 0.08".

Once the size of the paper that the printer will be using is
defined, and the printer driver is installed, right click on the
printer on the list of printers. Select "Properties" from the
pop-up context menu, and click on the "Device Settings" tab.
The default 3.125" paper and any user-defined form sizes within
the range accepted by the printer should appear in the "Form to
Tray Assignment" drop down box. Select the desired paper size,
press the "Apply" button, and click the "General" tab. The "Paper
available" box should show the newly selected form. Press the
"Printing Preferences" button, to bring up the "Printing
Preferences" dialog. Press the "Advanced" button and once again
select the desired paper size. Press "OK" three times to dismiss
the layers of dialogs.
